Weekly Group Rides

After staying home last year, we are cautiously working our way back into group riding. Starting Tuesday, May 4, if our Wisconsin weather permits, we will begin our weekly evening group rides: Tuesdays from Wheel and Sprocket Bay View, Wednesdays from Wheel and Sprocket Brookfield, and Thursdays from the corner of Downer and Hackett (Cafe Hollander) on Milwaukee’s East Side. As the season progresses we hope to add additional long and short distance community rides. Keep an eye on the calendar on our website and in our Cadence Facebook group for updates.

New this year is route navigation and cue sheets, powered by People For Bikes’ Ride Spot. This is a free, web and app based service. We understand that not everyone is ready to ride in a group yet or cannot make it on time to the 6:00 pm start. Having turn by turn navigation on a smartphone or a printable cue sheet and map will give members additional confidence to ride on our weeknight rides and flexibility to enjoy our team routes at any time. Create your free account and follow Cadence Cycling Milwaukee in Ride Spot. Save the Cadence routes to your account for easy access in the future. If you’d prefer to print a cue card, simply find the route, choose “save” and opt for a printable PDF.

About Our Weekly Rides

At the beginning of each ride, we will have a short safety talk about the rules of the road. At this time we will also divide into 2 or more groups, depending on turn out, so that we can maintain small group sizes and separate into desired riding paces. We require that all participants wear a mask/ face covering when within 6 feet of another person. All weekday evening rides DEPART at 6:00 pm! In order to respect the time of our members and to optimize our ride time together, please plan and prepare accordingly so that we can safely head out together promptly at 6pm.

Group 1

  • Pace: cruising speed of 16-18+ mph, average speed of 14-16 mph
  • Distance: approximately 25 miles
  • This is a drop ride.

Group 2

  • Pace: cruising speed of approximately 12 mph, average speed of about 10 mph
  • Distance: approximately 20 miles
  • This is a no-drop ride. The group will modify pace to allows the slowest rider to stay with the group.

All groups will converge at the end of a group for some refreshing beverages, snack, and camaraderie!

Team Distance Rides

Team distance rides are faster paced rides with paceline riding.
